Trauma Intervention Program of Portland, Maine (TIP)
TIP trains citizen volunteers to provide emotional and practical support to victims of traumatic events and their families in the first few hours following a tragedy. Calls might involve an elderly woman suddenly faced with the death of her spouse, a family who lost their home to a fire, or a father anxiously awaiting news about an injured child. While these situations are all very different, one constant remains: these people will not have to face their crisis alone, thanks to TIP.
TIP is a national nonprofit organization that was founded in 1985. TIP of Portland, Maine was established in 2004, in partnership with the Junior League of Portland, Maine, and works in cooperation with the Portland, South Portland, Gorham, Westbrook, Scarborough, Westbrook, Cape Elizabeth and Falmouth police and fire departments, Maine State Police and Maine Medical Center. Volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
To register for the upcoming TIP Training Academy, or for more information, call Avery Jenkins at 207.874.1030, extension 509 or email tip@commcc.org. Or, view the TIP brochure (pdf, 258k).

CMY Mentor Program
The Case Management for Youth, Inc. (CMY) Mentor Program is looking for caring adult volunteers to act as friends, role models and links to the community for youth in both one-to-one and group settings. Mentors participate in a screening and training process before beginning to mentor, and all matches are made based on a good fit, rather than on a first-come, first-served system. The mentor program serves youth ages 6-17 who live throughout Cumberland County and who participate in, or have a sibling who participates in the case management programs at Community Counseling Center. These are young people who could benefit from a caring adult role model. You may download an application to apply here (pdf, 95k). For more information, please email mentor@commcc.org. Or, view a CMY Mentor Program brochure here (pdf, 1723k).
