What kinds of services are offered? Community Counseling Center offers a broad range of high-quality services and programs. Our core service is outpatient counseling for children, individuals and families. In addition, we have specialized programs for youth, deaf and hard of hearing, and for elderly adults. We also provide social work case management, helping families identify and access other needed services and resources in the community. What are Community Counseling Center's hours of operation?
Is the agency accredited? Community Counseling Center is accredited by the national Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services. The agency is also licensed by the State of Maine to provide mental health services. Do you conduct home-based counseling? The agency offers some home based counseling for families through the Family Intervention Response & Support Team (FIRST) and for elderly through our Gateway program. The majority of clients come into the agency to receive services. What type of counseling is offered? Community Counseling Center provides counseling services for individuals, couples, families and groups. Clients typically meet once a week for one hour, depending upon the client’s needs. The approach used by the clinical staff varies according to the training and area of expertise of the program or staff member, as well as the needs of the client. Do you have parenting and support groups? We offer parenting classes and topic specific groups. Specialized parenting counseling is also offered through several of our clinical programs. How do I make an appointment? You can call 207.874.1030 and ask to speak to the Client Services Liaison. If the Client Services Liaison is not available, your name and number will be taken and someone will return your call right away. We will help you determine if our agency would be the best choice for you, or if another provider would better suit your needs. If it is decided that the agency is a good fit, you will be given an appointment at that time. We do request that if you are an adult calling for a partner, that we speak directly to the person for whom the appointment is being made. What if I need to see someone right away? We try to accommodate those who are experiencing an urgent situation and offer an appointment right away to those with priority needs. If we cannot see you quickly, and you are in crisis, we will also help connect you to area emergency mental health services. How old does my child have to be for counseling? The starting age that children are usually seen in counseling is five. This is not always the case, and some children who are slightly younger are seen in certain situations. Often young children can be effectively helped through support and counseling for their parents. How do I pay for my treatment at CCC? Community Counseling Center accepts most third party insurance and managed care programs, as well as Mainecare and Medicare. In addition, Community Counseling Center receives support from the United Way of Greater Portland and other local, state and private sources to help pay for its services. This support enables the agency to provide services at a reduced rate to those who could not otherwise afford them. The reduced rate is set on a sliding fee scale, based upon income and certain expenses. How do I participate in the development of my treatment? Your counselor will work in partnership with you to develop a treatment plan, based on your goals and needs. You and your counselor will both sign the treatment plan, and you will receive a copy of it to keep. You will review this plan regularly with your counselor. You have the right to refuse treatment at any time. What can I do if I am not satisfied with my treatment? Occasionally, a client may feel that their counselor does not understand
them or is not the right fit. When possible, the agency encourages you
to talk with your counselor about your concerns directly. If you are not
satisfied with his or her response, you have the right to request a different
counselor. You have the right to file a grievance at any time. Please
refer to the Grievance
Procedures (pdf,112k).
What level of training or specialties do the therapists have? At Community Counseling Center, licensed counselors, primarily Master’s Level Social Workers, provide all services. Clinical specialties include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Agency staff includes licensed counselors fluent in American Sign Language who can provide services to people who are Deaf, deaf, hard-of-hearing and late deafened. |
