helping children heal from domestic or community violence Immediate connection to services community-wide system of care treatment and support coordination with agencies free training to the community The Children's Initiative is a grant program funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA). The Children's Initiative was developed by the Greater Portland Trauma Assistance Network (GPTAN) to offer support and treatment for those who have experienced domestic violence or other kinds of violence in the community. We provide free training about signs and symptoms and strategies on how to help children and families. The Children's Initiative is a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
